2024 Department Fellow: Scott Rodrigue


Scott Rodrigue’s academic journey began at The University of Alabama (UA), where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering. Growing up in Huntsville, Alabama, with a father working for NASA during the space race, Scott was inspired by the community’s involvement in the space program, which fueled his passion for science and technology. His career started at Procter & Gamble, working in process design for the laundry powders business. This role allowed him to travel across the United States, leading project teams and learning the importance of collaboration and relationship-building.

Throughout his career, Scott has worked on significant projects and research initiatives across the world, including in Belgium, China, the United Kingdom, and the United States. His work involved developing products tailored to the needs of consumers in each market. Recently, Scott joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering Advisory Board at The University of Alabama and has expressed his excitement to support the department. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including the American Cleaning Institute (ACI) and the American Oil Chemists’ Society.

 

One of Scott’s greatest achievements has been leading teams that developed and launched new product innovations worldwide. As a Distinguished Fellow of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at UA, he hopes to provide valuable industry insights and innovation leadership. Scott’s career has been significantly influenced by his experiences working in various countries and serving consumers globally, driving him to create meaningful solutions that improve people’s lives. His advice to students and colleagues emphasizes the balance between science and creativity in innovation, continuous learning, and understanding consumer needs to develop impactful solutions. His passion and dedication to his work, and his dedication to the future chemical engineers are what make him an exceptional Distinguished Fellow of the department.
