Robby Anderson Department Fellow

From an early age, Robby Anderson was drawn to the worlds of science and mathematics, a natural curiosity that eventually led him to pursue chemical engineering. During his undergraduate studies, he found himself captivated by the discipline’s blend of analytical problem-solving, rigorous mathematics, scientific principles, and real-world applications. He especially enjoyed tackling complex challenges and discovering how technical concepts could be used to improve processes and operations.

Although his career ultimately moved beyond traditional engineering roles, Robby credits his chemical engineering education with shaping the way he thinks. The structured analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills he developed continue to influence his work today.

Robby’s first industry experience came as a Chemical Engineering Intern with Stallion Oilfield Services in Houston. The role introduced him to the practical side of engineering and gave him firsthand exposure to a fast-paced business environment. As he advanced through college, he became increasingly interested in the intersection of law, technology, business, and intellectual property. This growing interest ultimately led him to pursue law school, where he discovered that his engineering background provided a unique advantage in navigating technical legal issues.

A Birmingham native, Robby’s decision to attend the University of Alabama felt both natural and compelling. When touring chemical engineering programs, UA stood out for its strong reputation and its clear commitment to supporting students. That student-focused environment played a meaningful role in shaping his academic experience.

Mentorship has remained a central theme throughout Robby’s career. He believes deeply in the value of both giving and receiving mentorship, viewing it as one of the most important tools for long-term success. Having navigated a distinctive path from chemical engineering to law, he is always eager to share his experiences with students and young professionals exploring their own career trajectories.

Robby is also actively involved in several professional and community organizations, including the Birmingham Bar Association, the Phoenix Club of Birmingham, and Phi Gamma Delta alumni leadership. These roles have allowed him to contribute to community development while helping cultivate future leaders—often alongside fellow engineers.

Reflecting on his career, Robby considers one of his greatest professional accomplishments to be helping build and lead a growing legal organization at Unite Us. Equally meaningful to him are the leadership opportunities he has embraced within community organizations and the relationships he has formed through service and mentorship. For Robby, the combination of professional achievement and meaningful community impact has been especially rewarding.
