Scholarship Information

Chemical Engineering Four-year, Merit-based, Progress-toward-degree Scholarship Program*

Eligibility Requirements - A student in good standing in chemical engineering.

This undergraduate Chemical Engineering Scholarship is designed to reward students who make reasonable progress toward the BS(ChE) degree and who maintain good grades. For purposes of this award, a student-in-good-standing is one who:

  • maintains a minimum 3.0 GPA.

  • has earned 0-30 hours as a freshman, 31-60 hours as a sophomore, 61-90 hours as a junior, and 91-132 hours as a senior.

  • has enrolled in ChE 125 as a freshman, ChE 254 as a sophomore, ChE 305 as a junior and ChE 481 as a senior (NOTE: Along with ChE 125, students must also be eligible to enroll in MA 125/131).

  • sends letters of thanks in the fall semesters and letters of progress after the spring semesters to the scholarship donors with copies to the Chemical Engineering Department.
*NOTE: Beginning Fall 2007 semester, this scholarship has been automatically incorporated with the UA/COE scholarships for those students with ACT scores of 27+ and a high school GPA of 3.75. The UA/COE scholarship program is a much larger award. For those students with ACT scores below 27 and/or high school GPAs above or below 3.75, the above criteria continues to be used to award this departmental scholarship.

Schedule of Award

The base award is $500 for the freshman year with additional funds added in subsequent years according to the following schedule:

If your overall GPA is: Base Award [Fall 2002] Added Amount New Base
[Fall 2003]
<3.0 $500 - ineligible**
3.0-3.29 $500 $100 $600
3.3-3.49 $500 $200 $700
3.5-3.69 $500 $300 $800
3.7-3.89 $500 $400 $900
3.9-4.0 $500 $500 $1000
**NOTE: A student may be reinstated on scholarship by raising his/her overall GPA to a 3.0 or higher.

The same schedule will be used to adjust the New Base for the junior and senior years. For example, a student who maintains a 4.0 GPA will receive in successive years $500, $1000, $1500, and $2000 for a four-year scholarship of $5,000. A student who maintains a 3.0 GPA will receive $500, $600, $700, and $800 in successive years or a $2,600 four-year award. Therefore, depending on GPA and progress-toward-degree, students will receive a four-year scholarship ranging between $2,600 and $5,000.
